DIY ALL-PURPOSE CLEANER [Natural - Non Toxic - Affordable - Easy]

Essential oils are not just for diffusing, inhaling, ingesting, or applying to the skin.
Many essential oils have the ability to effectively disinfect all kinds of surfaces and objects. As a bonus, they also add a nice natural smell.

It’s no secret that store-bought cleaners contain tons of chemicals like synthetic fragrance and synthetic preservatives that have been shown to harmfully affect our mental, emotional, and physical health.

CAUTION: DIY-ing household stuff is really fun and addictive and can lead to more DIY.
This basic formula for cleaning will be a pleasant switch from the store-bought varieties.

HOMEMADE ALL-PURPOSE CLEANER RECIPE

This non-toxic kitchen cleaner is made with white vinegar and smells like…of course, vinegar. When you first spray it, it will smell VERY strongly of white vinegar but will dissipate as it dries and you’ll begin to smell the essential oil instead.

This simple recipe can be made in minutes and used all over your home.

The best part is, you can customize the essential oils to your scent preference, or to the level of grime. Citrus smell is perfect for an everyday countertop spray, while Tea Tree for a grimy mess. Dedaun +co. prefers Defence a.k.a Thieves Blend and Lemon.

All you need is:

1. 500ml refillable glass spray bottle  

This can cut down on needless plastic waste while also allowing you to play around with the essential oil mix in order to figure out your favourite scent.

2. 1/3 cup of distilled white vinegar

White vinegar is 5% acetic acid, which is a natural disinfectant and is good at cutting through grease and grime.

3. 2/3 cup of distilled/filtered water

Water can harbor bacteria when it sits out too long. To prevent this, use distilled or filtered or boiled tap water (allow to cool before using in the recipe)

4. 30 drops Essential Oils (we pick Defence Bespoke Blend and Lemon Essential Oil)

20 drops Defence Bespoke Blend a.k.a Thieves

This essential oil blend is made of cinnamon, lemon, clove bud, eucalyptus, and rosemary. It has a spicy, cozy, and clean scent smell. This blend has great antimicrobial benefits, which means it works great as a cleaner for just about everything in your house. And, above all it’s non-toxic.

10 drops Lemon Essential Oil

The fresh uplifting aroma of Lemon perfectly masks the strong, vinegar odor and gives it a cheery scent. Cleaning can be enjoyable again with this essential oil!

Shake well before every use (essential oils and water don’t mix) and store in a store in a cool dark cabinet. Sunlight and heat can destroy the effectiveness of essential oils.

This cleaner can be used on most surfaces, but because it is made with vinegar, it’s best not to use it on granite or other natural stones, or on wood floors for mopping.  A weaker solution might be fine to use but always do a test patch first to make sure there are no negative effects on your surfaces.

But that being said, this homemade is a fabulous natural kitchen cleaner, bathroom cleaner, window cleaner.  And above all, It’s safe for kids to be around.

*As mentioned earlier, this DIY cleaner has a vinegar smell BUT it goes away very quickly, within a minute or two, and then you’re left with whichever scents you have chosen.  If it’s still a bit strong for you, you can add a bit more water and essential oil.

YOU WILL PROBABLY NEVER GO BACK TO STORE-BOUGHT CLEANING SPRAYS AGAIN!
