THE HISTORY OF THIEVES OIL a.k.a DEFENCE

THE HISTORY OF THIEVES OIL a.k.a DEFENCE

According to the long-told historic tale, the use of thieves' oil dates all the way back to the year 1413.  The time of the infamous Bubonic Plague (a.k.a The Black Death) devastated a large portion of France.

The Black Death spread like wildfire amongst the people.  It seemed impossible to be in the vicinity without contracting it, and at the time, the sickness really did mean ultimate demise.

During this time, however, four (4) thieves were captured and charged for stealing from the sick and dying.  The thieves never contracted the plague, despite the close contact with the Black-Death victims.

The judge was so intrigued by how these men had stayed immune to this terrible disease, that he told them if they shared their secret he would spare them of this punishment.

The thieves told the judge their secret: they were perfume & spice merchants who were unemployed due to the closure of the seaports and the devastation of the plague.  They had prepared an essential oil recipe that when applied to their hands, ears, temples, feet & a mask over their mouths, kept them safe from infection.

They told of a concoction that included clove and rosemary that afforded them protection from contracting diseases.

Today, there are five essential oils most commonly used in modern “thieves” blends. They are clove bud, lemon, cinnamon, eucalyptus, and rosemary.

Clove Bud - naturally combat harmful bacteria that can cause respiratory illnesses and other conditions. With its potent antibacterial and antiviral abilities, studies suggest it can help boost the immune system to fight off, or even prevent, the common cold and flu.

Lemon - best known for its ability to cleanse toxins from the body, and it’s widely used to stimulate lymphatic drainage, rejuvenate energy, purify skin, and fight bacteria and fungi as well as boosting immunity

Cinnamon - No. 1 out of 26 of the most popular herbs and spices in the world in terms of its protective antioxidant levels. It also boasts a wide range of other health benefits, including antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-diabetic properties.

Eucalyptus  - one of the best essential oils for sore throats, cough, seasonal allergies, and headaches. Its benefits are due to its ability to stimulate immunity, provide antioxidant protection and improve respiratory circulation.

Rosemary - has been used in traditional medicine for thousands of years to improve memory, soothe digestive problems, boost the immune system and relieve aches and pains. It has antibacterial properties that can treat a host of your respiratory problems. and also treats allergies, sore throat, cold, and flu.
